The Police Academy is certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. At the academy, you will be trained in law enforcement operations and functions, including firearms training, emergency vehicle operations, and first aid.

Program Information

Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to become fully certified as a police officer in Maryland. 32 credit hours may also be applied toward an academic degree.

To qualify, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate recognized by the state of Maryland.
  • Good moral character and a police record clear of felonies or serious misdemeanor convictions.
  • Have a driving record with no more than three points.
  • No serious or repeated traffic offenses.
  • Pass a physical examination and drug screening.
  • Authorize a complete background investigation.

Candidates must also attend the entire 26-week program and successfully complete all of its aspects.

Tuition costs $4,780 based on residency (includes background investigation fee). Uniforms are provided.

How to Apply

You must attend an orientation session to obtain an application for the Police Academy. Call our office at 301-546-0175 to find out when the Orientation Sessions will be held. You cannot apply for the Police Academy on your own.
